Help with HGT Data

I am jumping back into route building and am stumped trying to get HGT terrain data to load properly. I followed Goku's instructions and downloaded my HGT data from EarthExplorer.
This is before.

The second image looks to me that the camera is below ground level.
The squares at the top are the ground from below, the vertical lines at the bottom are the cliff face where the newly entered tile drops to the original tile beyond.
Try moving the camera up.

For me it looks the same. Just move the camera up. You probably have camera stick to terrain disabled.

Thanks guys, I feel pretty silly. I guess I need to read further before I go forward.
